SPECIAL SESSION DESCRIPTION

A growing need for accurate and reliable gas detection is driven by global challenges such as air pollution, climate change, and the transition toward cleaner energy systems. Recent advances in innovative materials, sensing mechanisms, and system integration has significantly improved the performance of gas sensors. At the same time, the deployment of distributed and IoT-enabled sensing networks is enabling continuous, large-scale monitoring of gases in both urban and industrial environments.

This special session focuses on recent advances in gas sensing technologies and measurement systems for environmental monitoring, industrial safety, and sustainability. The session will address both fundamental and application-oriented aspects, with particular attention to emerging trends current developments, and open challenges in gas monitoring technologies.

  • Advanced gas sensors (e.g., electrochemical, optical, chemiresistive, photoacoustic);
  • Novel sensing materials (e.g., nanomaterials, 2D materials, functional coatings);
